Tips on preparing for your CQC Inspection

Getting inspected is usually stressful. Whether it’s an inspection by your landlord or a workplace VAT inspection, stress levels can usually run high. Having a CQC inspection is just the same, and stress and worry are natural reactions. However, there is no need for this, and our friendly staff who conduct mock CQC inspections will always do their best to put you at ease. Despite this, there are a few tips which will help you to prepare for your CQC inspection, and hopefully assist you in passing with flying colours!

1. Ensure basic housekeeping is always maintained

There are a number of good housekeeping tips that will help to create a good impression, but these are often overlooked. Simple practices such as making sure all staff members are wearing their name badge, checking that notice boards are up to date and that email inboxes are clear enough to allow important information to be noticed quickly should all be best practice anyway, and maintaining these standards will set your inspection off on the right foot.

2. Let staff members know that CQC inspectors may talk to them

Inspectors talking to staff is common practice, so it is important to let staff know this in advance. Team leaders should inform their team to be open and honest at all times – not only will this allow the inspector to fully understand how operations run on a daily basis, but will also allow the employee to relax during the process. Conversations should always take place away from public areas, so don’t be surprised if an inspector takes a staff member aside for a conversation in a quiet place.

3. Don’t worry if problems are raised

It is likely that the inspector will have a few comments on improvements that need to be made, but don’t let this worry you. Show the inspector that you wish to address the issue actively and promptly, and this will allow the inspector to know that you are willing to respond positively. Small mistakes don’t mean that you haven’t passed, and constructive criticism should always be welcomed.
